In September 2014, together with Dutch journalist Carlijne Vos, I went to a refugee camp of Yezidi’s in Turkey, on the border with Iraq. They were on the flee from the Islamic State. The camp was built on a recreational area with a playground and only existing for 5 days when we arrived. The refugees made their own makeshift ‘homes’ with blankets and curtains. The children knew little from what was going on, they had the feeling of being on vacation. Today, these families are probably still there.
